FRENKI VS. DANAS

Frenki Simatovic’s defense files a new report to the Trial Chamber about the reports in the Belgrade weekly, asking it to take “necessary measures to prevent the jeopardizing of the proceedings before the Tribunal”

Frenki Simatovic’s defense counsel has submitted to the Trial Chamber a third report on the reports published in the Belgrade weekly Danas, asking it to take “necessary measures to prevent the jeopardizing of the proceedings before the Tribunal”. In the opinion of the Belgrade attorney Zoran Jovanovic, the proceedings have been jeopardized by the claims that Simatovic, who has been provisionally released, is “running an operation for the voluntary surrender” of the persons accused of war crimes and that he is “threatening” the Danas reporter who has been writing about that.

Noting that the defense had already notified the Trial Chamber two times since Simatovic’s provisional release, about the reports published in Danas, attorney Jovanovic qualified the conduct of the Belgrade weekly in his latest submission as “persistent and wanton publication of untruth that may have direct consequences for the accused, his safety and the safety of his family, as well as the organization of his defense and the overall course of the proceedings.” In the texts published in Danas, Simatovic is “presented as a Croat arresting Serbs indicted by the ICTY, allegedly using the method of ‘hood on the head,” his defense counsel claims.

Simatovic’s defense attached to the motion photocopies of the texts in question and their translation into English.
