STANISIC AND SIMATOVIC TO RETURN TO THE HAGUE
The Trial Chamber orders Stanisic and Simatovic to return to the Tribunal’s Detention Unit by Monday, 11 February 2008. The trial of two former Serbian state security service chiefs is to ‘open soon after’ the status conference scheduled for 27 February 2008

The trial of the former chief of the Serbian state security service Jovica Stanisic and former commander of the special operations unit of the Serbian secret service Franko Simatovic Frenki is likely to begin in early March 2008.
The Trial Chamber, with Judge Robinson presiding, issued the order to the Serbian and Dutch authorities asking them to ensure that the return of the accused Stanisic and Simatovic to the Tribunal’s detention unit by Monday, 11 February 2008. Both Stanisic and Simatovic have been provisionally released pending trial. The status conference has been scheduled for Wednesday, 27 February 2008 and the trial is expected to start ‘very soon after it’.
Jovica Stanisic and Frenki Simatovic are charged with persecution of the non-Serbian population on political, ethnic and religious grounds, murder, deportation and forceful transfer of population from large parts of Croatia and BH from May 1991 to December 1995. The five counts in the indictment qualify these acts as crimes against humanity and violations of laws and customs of war.
